Auto Accident Cases

Situation:

Will underinsured motorist coverage compensate this Chicago police officer?

We represented a 30 year-old City of Chicago police officer who was proceeding to an emergency with his sirens on and lights flashing when he drove through a red light and was broadsided by another vehicle. Our client suffered a herniated disc in his back that eventually required surgery.

The vehicle that struck our client only had $20,000 in insurance. We first settled with the insurance company for the driver that struck our client for its full $20,000 insurance coverage limit, then we went after our client’s own insurance carrier for the full policy limit available under the “underinsured motorist coverage” of his policy.

Successful Resolution: $120,000

After proving that his injuries had a value in excess of $100,000 (which the second insurance company vigorously contested) we were finally able to settle just before arbitration for the full $100,000.00 coverage limits available from both insurance policies combined.
